with gb4ham the sheffield amateur radio club was founded in the 1920 and has a very long history of amateur radio in sheffield. the sheffield sarc operates from the same site and premises at the sarc is located in part of the sheffield transport sports club at greenhill main road (meadowhead ) sheffield. sarc would like to congratulate yorkshire amateur radio friends for their achievement of third place in the multi operator ssb field day on the 2 nd and 3 rd of september 2017, call sign was m0yrf/p. this is a wonderful achievement by a group of friends who all have a keen interest in amateur radio and decided to have a weekend of fun with barbeque beer and radio, they had no fancy expensive equipment just a long wire and one of the groups radios. friends having fun with their hobby with great social interaction and plenty of food and drink …….isn’t this what amateur radio should be about no politics, no ego’s, no hidden agendas, just like minded friends having fun. well done lads you are an example to us all. the group consisted of m0szd m1eac m0iuk m0hth m0rtq g7cou they have rightly won the praise and recognition with certificate from rsgb. they were based at an ex raf nuclear bunker in holmpton which is now run as a museum near withinsea on the east coast. “the phoenix rises from the ashes” an agm was held recently to elect the new committee who will guide the club to its former glory, we are well on the way to rebuilding a proper radio club with a very experienced and knowledgeable committee consisting of chairman; m1ers steve webster. vice chairman; g6dct dave littlewood. secretary; m0ond jim isherwood. treas urer; 2e0cjh. carol hinde plans are in an advanced stage already with a refurbished portacabin which now has mains electricity and a working kitchen along with a newly decorated exam and training room with some large heaters to keep us warm in the winter, the mobile mast has also been refurbished and painted so is all ready to use and it most certainly will be. we have negotiated the use of the land behind the portacabin which is approx 300 yards long and 200 yards wide for the sole use of sarc which means we can have an antenna farm and still leave plenty of room for experimenting etc. we have recently been gifted some radio equipment which will come in very handy and as we have to maintain the fields for our antenna farm we have also been gifted a ride on mower which is brilliant, all the members are excited and busy helping build the antenna farm so we are well on our way to reaching our goal of a busy fully functional proper radio club where we will cater for hf, vhf, uhf, data modes, fast scan tv, moon bounce, and workshops for building antennas and learning about all the different types of modes and bands that the members have not yet had a chance to work with. with regard to training we now have a room for academic learning and a separate room for practical learning so if you are wanting to pass your foundation license or advance to the next level of license please ask for details of when the next course starts. if you would like to join our club at this very exciting time please contact us or come along on a monday evening after 7pm. s.a.r.c. activities d espite being turned do wn for a grant from rsgb to help revamp the portacabin we have gone ahead on our own and it has been repaired and repainted inside and out, mains electricity has been installed which will ensure we can use it during the winter and with that in mind we are erecting masts with antennas for vhf/uhf. the 60ft mast on a trailer has been fitted with new cable and an electric winch this will be used for hf with the very large club beam on top and we intend to run two co-phased vertical delta loops one from each mast as we have plenty of room having negotiated the sole use of the field behind the portacabin. we are entering a new and very exciting stage in the development of the club and its facilities all due to the hard work and vision of the members, we will be reporting on our progress on a regular basis with lots of photos to show you what we have achieved up to now and what we intend for the future. the facilities are designed to enable any member to operate antennas that they have only been able to dream about up to now because of space or financial restrictions at their qth. if you would like to be
